Maintain House Committee but expand its mandate to include membership welfare; Merge with other committee such as Mentorship, public sector lawyers, In-house Counsel and HIV Committees
Term of Reference
- To take care of the funeral of deceased members and in special cases members’ illness;
- To promoted interaction among members;
- To promote Bench/Bar interaction;
- To increase public sector lawyers and in-house Counsel’s participation in the affairs of the Association;
- To provide a dedicated for a where the common and unique interests/concerns of public sector lawyers and In-House Counsel are represented and addressed and in particular to encourage the sharing of practical experiences, hands on advice and in- depth analysis of issues surrounding In-House Counsel;
- To facilitate and coordinate training relevant, specific and focused to public sector lawyers and In-House Counsel’s practice and generally advance the continuing professional development of corporate lawyers, that is to encourage excellence and advancement in standards and to promote the proficiency and competence of In-House Counsel practices;
- To promote and encourage professional and ethical conduct amongst its members and further to develop mentors and mentees among corporate lawyers;
- To provide a medium for peer to peer networking opportunities within the Association
- Review current mentorship programs in other regulated jurisdictions.
- Develop and provide feedback on the development of the mentorship program.
- Develop and provide feedback on the development of accompanying forms and supporting documents.
- Communicate and liaise with stakeholders.
- Provide recommendations to the Registration and Membership regarding the development of the Mentorship Program.
- To promote and protect the rights of people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS.
- To advise the council on matters related to HIV and the law.
- To empower committee members to better understand HIV-related matters common to Zambia and in comparison, to the region.
- In conjunction with the CPD committee, to encourage continuous professional development for lawyers to better appreciate the link between HIV and the law.
- In conjunction with the women’s rights and litigation committees, to carry out public interest litigation on HIV-related matters especially as they affect groups most vulnerable to HIV.
- In conjunction with the legal aid committee, to provide free legal advice on HIV and the law to the indigent.
- To widely disseminate information to members of the public on HIV and human rights.
- To participate in commemorating VCT and world aids day.
- In conjunction with the law reform committee, to give guidance for law reform to contribute to an environment that better responds to HIV in Zambia.
- In partnership with civil society organizations and other professional bodies, to contribute to a legal environment that better addresses HIV in the country.
- To influence the development of HIV workplace policies for the law association of Zambia and individual law firms.
