Rename Administration of Justice Committee and expand its mandate to cover human rights, constitutionalism and rule of law.
Terms of Reference
- To address the perception of corruption and incompetence in the Judiciary;
- To address undue delays in delivery of Justice;
- To assist the Judiciary, implement the principle of Autonomy of the Judiciary;
- To address challenges relating to the Office of the Sheriff;
- Undertaking prison/detention centre visitations to ensure observance of Human Rights;
- Observe the compliance rights standards at both domestic and international levels;
- Sensitising members and the General Public on Human Rights;
- Advising the Council on legal instruments that pertains to Human Rights;
- Recommend litigation of Human Rights cases to Council and Litigation Committee;
- Monitoring the Electoral Process;
- Co-operating with other organisations on rule of law and Human Rights issues;
- To carry out any other duty referred to the Committee.
- Consider matters touching on the reform of the criminal justice system;
- Consider matters touching on the rights of prisoners and accused persons.
- Consider matters incidental to the foregoing.
