Masengu Misozi Hope

Misozi Hope Masengu is the founder and Managing Partner of NOVUS HM Legal Practitioners, a leading full-service law firm in Lusaka. She is a Beit Scholar, holding a Master of Laws(LLM) in International Commercial Law from the University of Durham in England and a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) from the University of Zambia. Throughout the duration of her studies, Misozi was a recipient of the Prestigious Dean’s Best Student Award. Prior to setting up the Firm, she was a Partner at Mwenye & Mwitwa Advocates, where she led all commercial transactions. In 2017, she was seconded to Trinity LLP, a London based law firm with a focus on project finance in emerging markets (under the International Lawyers for Africa Flagship).

Misozi has over 12 years’ experience in legal practice, with a peculiar expertise in both commercial litigation and commercial transactions. She has successfully represented clients in celebrated cases involving employment and labour disputes, the dissolution of Islamic marriages and creditors’ schemes of arrangement. Misozi is also highly regarded as an expert and a trusted advisor to multinational corporations in employment law disputes. She is ranked and recognized as an expert in commercial litigation by the Global Law Experts. In terms of transactional lawyering, Misozi has extensively advised various leading commodity trading companies on acquisitions in the wholesale and FMCGs industry. She has also previously advised on acquisition financing in the banking sector. Misozi has also extensively advised private companies and high net-worth individuals on the establishment and operation of Trusts.

 

In 2021, she was recognized as one of the Top 100 Female Lawyers in Africa by the Courtroom Mail. In 2020, she made the list as one of the 30 Most Influential Female Law Firm Founders in Africa, ranked by the Courtroom Mail. She is currently serving as non-executive director on the boards of various institutions. She is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators UK(MCIArb),Zambia branch and the London Court of International Arbitration Users’ Council. She has also written widely on employment and labour law. Misozi is passionate about mentoring young people and she is listed as a Mentor under the LAZ Mentorship Programme. She is also listed as a Mentor under the “When Females Lead” Mentorship Programme founded by Mrs. Mizinga Melu.
